PREPAREDNESS PLAN
Have on hand updated information about your farm such as address number
of employees, emergency contacts, location of animals and location of
emergency kits.



COMMUNICATIONS PLAN

Collect emergency contact information from all your staff, have on hand the phone numbers of neighbors and organizations that can support you and out-of-area contacts. Check with municipal offices to identify if your city has any communication channel in case of emergency.

Be sure to list access codes and obtain authorizations in case you need them.
Identify rally points inside and outside of the farm in case of emergency. Identify a place where you can take refuge in case you need it.

Clear defensible space around your barns, pastures and property just as you do your home.


Plan in advance where you will take your animals in case of emergency, have several evacuation routes for your animals, if you do not have a truck or trailer, agree before the disaster with local companies how they can support you.
Do not wait until the last minute to start
evacuating!


Have vaccination/ medical records, registration papers and photographs of your animals (proof of ownership) and your Disaster Preparedness Kit.

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you must leave your animals, leave them in a preselected, cleared area. Leave enough hay for 48 to 72 hours. Do not rely on automatic watering systems. Power may be lost.
